Your website: Where should the content go?

When it comes to placing information on your website, always consider how easy (or hard) it will be for your customers to find it. Here are some pointers:

The news that you REALLY need them to see (sales, new product releases, your top-selling product line, changes to your hours of operation, etc.) should always go in a prominent spot, such as at the top of your home page. Don’t bury it at the bottom of the page, or put it in some far corner of your site where most people will never see it.

Put business stats and instructions (contact info, hours, ordering guidelines, etc.) in a place where your customers can easily find them. For example, put your phone number or e-mail at the top of every page, or at least on a designated page such as a “Contact” or “How to reach us” page. And put hours of operation and other helpful info in a relevant place such as your “About” page or “FAQ” page — don’t expect people to find it buried at the bottom of your “Sales” page.

Overall, you should make it as easy as possible for your customers to find the information they’re looking for. And put the information that you want them to see in a prominent location, right in front of them so they can’t miss it.
